Big Tree Plant
Plant more trees!
The Big Tree Plant was a national project, launched in December 2010, to increase the number of trees planted in towns, cities and neighbourhoods throughout England. The scheme encouraged and supported people to establish, protect and enhance local green spaces. The target was to see 1 million trees planted.
Natural Enterprise helped over 3000 Islanders plant trees working in partnership with Spectrum Housing. But why stop there? We now want to continue what the Big Tree Plant started. By creating a tree nursery, we have been able to supply local community groups with native trees to improve their public spaces.
A variety of groups on the Island have already taken advantage of the offer, including schools, Parish Councils and residential care homes.
In 2024, the IW Festival supported Gift to Nature with funding raised from their Green Levy. The money enabled the planting of a new community orchard on Pan Country Park. Because of this, the orchard was named 'Festival Orchard'. Three local primary schools, Nine Acres, Summerfields and Barton, came along in January 2025 to help with the planting. We are pleased to announce that the success of this venture, has led to Gift to Nature being supported by the Festival again in 2025.
